Що таке Reported Speech?
Reported Speech (Indirect Speech, непряма мова) — це спосіб передати чиїсь слова, не цитуючи їх дослівно. Замість лапок ми «вбудовуємо» висловлювання у своє речення.

Backshift of Tenses (зсув часів)
Коли головне дієслово (said, told, asked) в минулому часі, час у підрядному реченні зсувається на один крок назад:

Коли backshift НЕ потрібен?
- Загальні істини: She said the Earth is round.
- Головне дієслово в Present: He says he is busy.
- Would, could, might, should — не змінюються.

Займенники змінюються логічно — залежно від того, хто говорить і про кого:

SAY — без об'єкта

say hello, say goodbye, say yes/no
TELL — завжди з об'єктом
He told me that he was busy. ✓

tell the truth, tell a lie, tell a story
Питання в непрямій мові
Yes/No питання → if / whether
Direct: "Do you like jazz?"
Reported: He asked if/whether I liked jazz.
Wh-питання → прямий порядок слів!
Direct: "Where do you live?"
Reported: He asked where I lived. (не "where did I live")
Типова помилка!
❌ He asked where did I live.
✓ He asked where I lived.
У reported questions — ПРЯМИЙ порядок слів, без do/does/did!
Команди, прохання, пропозиції
Команди: told + to
"Close the door!"
→ She told me to close the door.
Заперечні: not to
"Don't touch that!"
→ He told me not to touch that.
Прохання: asked + to
"Could you help me?"
→ She asked me to help her.
Пропозиції: suggested + -ing
"Let's go to the cinema!"
→ He suggested going to the cinema.
